They say that in a long enough timeline, everything statistically evens out. If you play an infinite number of poker hands, your bad streaks are going to even out. That’s the good news. The bad news is that you’re not going to play an infinite number of poker online hands. I’d like to say you’re going to live forever, but I’d put odds against immortality. Unfortunately, a lot of people (myself included) tend to take the “everything evens out” mentality and toss out the “eventually” part of the statement, and end up shortening the timeline to-”I’ll make up for it in the next hand.” This way of thinking can end up costing you a lot of money. It’s very easy (particularly when things aren’t going well) to imagine that you’re due for a good casino hand, just because you’re on a dry streak. The problem is-every hand is individual. If you start playing hands based on the cards you’ve gotten earlier, you’re going to end up being disappointed. Just because your pocket 5’s drew dead last hand, they’re not more likely to flop into a set with this one. I’m not saying that it won’t happen, but it’s not any more or less likely to because of you your previous hands went.
Jack queen is a great two face card connector that can be put to great use on the poker table. There are a lot of kinds of flops that help this hand. Often you will be able to flop a queen or a jack and feel confident in betting out to see where you are at, though when reraised it is important to be able to slow down and see if you are beat. Neither the queen or the jack is a supremely reliable kicker, and especially in action pots, you are probably looking at being dominated or put upon by an over pair. Act, and then reevaluate the potential range of your opponent when reacted upon. Jack queen also makes the nut straight of broadway when included with 10 Jack and Ace, not to mention the other configurations of straight that can be made from this poker online hand. In position at the casino, and especially at slower action tables, this hand is worth an opening raise. Particularly when suited it is worth calling an average sized raised especially when in position and against an opponent who plays a wide range of hands. Knowing when to slow down when you do hit a piece of the flop in the wrong spot is vital, as it is with most of the two face card type hands.
Speaking of poker online rights, U.S.-based poker online advocacy group the Poker Players alliance has launched a marketing campaign using the popular social media tool Twitter.
The group announced the launch of the Tweet for Poker, an internet advocacy tool that allows online poker enthusiasts and activists to directly contact their member of Congress and tell them to support pending legislation that will license and regulate online poker.
PPA’s Tweet for Poker site allows Twitter users to directly target their member of Congress through a unique platform that matches their account with that of their elected official. Senators are asked to support legislation introduced by Senator Robert Menendez - S.1597, while House members are urged to support H.R. 2267 introduced by Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank. Participants simply enter the information - zip code for Senate, mailing address for House - and PPA redirects them to their Twitter account with their legislator’s information and the message pre-filled. By visiting the site, viewers can follow who is contacting their member of Congress and from what location.
Earlier this year, PPA implemented other online programs to engage poker players and encourage them to contact policymakers to protect their game. During National Poker Week, PPA collected more than 375,000 signatures on the petition to President Obama calling for the licensing and regulation of online poker, and nearly 200,000 letters/emails were sent to U.S Representatives and Senators.
Hosting a home game is a great way for online poker players to get together in a friendly, casual setting. Setting up a home game is more than getting ten poker players together in one room, however. If you’re thinking about throwing a home game, here are few things to consider.
The Rules
When different players come together for a home game, disagreements over blind structure, the house rules, and any other aspects of the game are bound to come up. With the money and pride that are at stake in every poker game, fundamental disagreements like these can turn ugly quickly. Quench these fires before they start by establishing these basics before the game starts:
The Buy-In: Make sure people know the buy-in amount before they arrive and collect the cash from each player before any of the cards are dealt.
The Payout: This is huge, because you don’t want people to start arguing over who gets paid what as the competition gets narrowed down. At my home games, first place gets 70% of the total cash, second gets 20%, and third gets 10% (usually his buy-in amount).
The Rules: Make sure everyone is aware of the game they came to play, whether it’s a single game like Hold ‘Em or Omaha or dealer’s choice, so people know what to expect, and with each game try to adhere to casino or poker house rules, so as not to confuse anyone.
Blinds: Poker games can go on indefinitely if you let them. If your game is a tournament, make sure that everyone knows the blind amounts and how often they will be raised. If you are hosting a cash game, set a time when the game will end, make sure everyone knows it, and stick with it.
Details
When you host a home game, people come for the online poker, but they keep coming back because of your attention to detail. They may not mention it, but your guests will appreciate it if you throw in a few extra incentives to make your game stand out.
Seating-it seems like a no-brainer, but many home games find hosts scrambling to find seating. Make sure that you know how many people are coming, and find enough seats for them. No one wants to stand all night.
Hand-ranking cheat sheets are a nice touch if there are any beginners coming. An index card with the ranking of hands from the highest to lowest will allow the newbies at the table to discreetly see what their hand is worth.
A loser’s lounge is a great way to make your game stand out. Many times, people who get knocked out early will be loathe to go home, so a television tuned to a sporting event or a gaming system will allow them to stick around and interact with other players who’ve been knocked out.
Most avid online poker fans agree that televised poker is an entertaining version of their favorite game. It is edited and dressed up where it is not the same thing as a normal game, but entertaining none the less. It is only the brand new players who think that what they learn from the television can be translated to real life. The great thing for you is that you can spot these television trained opponents a mile away.
It is easy to spot a fish who thinks that they are the next big thing just because they watched a few hands of online poker on cable television. On first glance you will notice their clothing. It will be a mirror image of whatever their favorite poker player happened to be wearing on their last broadcast. Then you will notice that they act just like the pros on television. This behavior pattern features frequent all ins and bluffs. These television players are almost universally aggressive players with very little skill to back up the bluff.
Once you learn to recognize the players that spend more time at the casino online than at the table you will be able to win more easily. Use their weaknesses against them. They think that they are playing in a television show. A little dose of reality will do them wonders.
The popularity of Chinese lanterns has been on the up this year the Chinese Lanterns squad have really relished whipping out the camera to get some pic’s of these magic objects Well in all honesty we have been using digital cam’s as opposed to film due to the ease of operation and manipulation of the photo’s;Snappy edit and instant playback of shots as well as the storage of hundreds of snaps per memory stick is a very invoking quality. The capacity cap of my old polaroid 24 snaps camera seems antiquated by comparability. I bought a camera last week and can assure you it was not a conclusion I made lightly With so many brands models and technical features to come to grips with not to mention the reviews that tend to contradict each other to some extent. It can be a bit trying at the best of times. From my experience it pays to have a good resource site such as dPreview on speed dial it breaks the camera’s into categories such as compact, prosumer etc. It also has user generated content and some well written articles on the different models. But after all that the decison does actually and figuratively rest in your hands.. You really need to get one in your grip to know what feels correct for your style of photography
There are a lot of different life lessons that you can take from poker. There are the social skills to start with, followed by the ability to money manage. One of the most important things to take from your weekly game is that it is possible to be an undefeated loses. This fits into the larger idea of winning the battle but losing the war, but poker en ligne gives it a much clearer articulation that is more familiar to modern audiences. Let’s look at an example, if you are playing at a low stakes game against fish you could keep a winning streak going for a while. But what would that actually mean for you? For one thing, you would probably end up financially around the same place that you started (if not a little lower because of the house edge). It doesn’t matter to your financial bottom line that you won every game, you still lost money.
In the real world this little example shows that it is important to look at the big picture. There is no use wining a small event if it is just going to put you behind farther down the road. So things like a petty argument with a boss, for example, are just not going to work out in your favor. Keep the big picture in mind and you will end up much happier when playing online poker.
Are you a social bowler ready to approach real bowling more seriously. Should that be the case, this is important time in learning the game as a true student of the game. Read carefuly, ’cause our bowling pro shop’s “Next Steps” handbook to “Bowling Like a Pro” stand as essential reading. Pros in your city’s bowling pro shop are there to assist you reach their bowling skills. It’s no surprise, roll strikes if can spare ‘em (hehe). I kid. Fine, if only it were that simple. No worry, with a little guidance we’ll make sure you’re throwing your way.
If you haven’t already, buy your own custom fit bowling shoes, balls and bowling ball bags. It’s not a sales pitch, it actually matters. I promise, have your personal ball fitted, and you’ll bowl more consistently. A brand name weighted bowling ball can make a substantial improvement in your game. Of course another critical matter is enjoying well-made bowling shoes which smell fresh, look good and help your foot work.
Since you may have previous bought comfortable supplies, now it’s time for another important bowling tip: aiming the ball. When you hold the ball, don’t actually aim for the actual pins. Aim for the the points about 15 feet down the lane, like a gunsight. Never thought of this? It is easier to hit a mark that is nearer. To take full advantage, it should be your habit to stand in the same position on the floor each time. If you do it the same every time you can fine-tune your aim using the arrows in the lane.
What do you make of curves, to get their desired pin action? Indeed, this is our next best piece of bowling advice. They get traction with the specialized bowling ball. Might be surprising that serious bowlers regularly roll at least two bowling balls to roll amazing pin action, selected precisely for where they are. Word of warning: begginers should not try to be fancy, and don’t get a ball that weighs a ton. Many serious bowlers roll bowling balls with special resin expert grip. Steer clear of them, because these pro bowling balls can make even moderately good talents look silly. That about raps it up. A pro from our bowling shop will return in the August edition.
Thanks, James Chase
